Complete revision - key changes are:

1. Ability for Academics to obtain promotion through one of the following three Categories:

• Teaching and Research Academic

• Research Focused Academic

• Teaching Focused Academic.

2. Inclusion of three Themes of Academic Activity by which Academics can demonstrate their academic contribution, including:

• Learning and Teaching

• Research

• Academic Citizenship and Engagement.

3. Inclusion of a ‘Career Development and Promotion Guide’ (the Guide) that includes criteria under each Theme by which to determine academic contribution. The Guide also draws on sector best practice and was developed with expertise and support provided by Dr Sara Booth from the University of Tasmania.

4. Replacement of arbitrary numeric weighting thresholds for promotion with a standard-based approach informed by discipline standards and sector best-practice.

Update to Clause 16 and Definitions to amend the term ‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander’ to ‘Aboriginal’.


16 June 2020:


Clause 6 removed and clause 7 updated to remove reference to the Academic Classification Policy (no longer exists). Reference to the Policy removed from Section 7.
